Do stores still offer double coupon days?

I remember when I was a child that supermarkets offered 'double coupon days'. For example, if you have a $1.00 off coupon, if you use it on certain days (usually the middle of the week), the store doubles that coupons value to $2.00. It was a super great way to save money. I would like to know if any major grocery chains, like Safeway, offer double coupon days, and if so, which days/times. Thanks for whatever help you can offer.
